Hi just wanted to share that I feel like another Divya is being birthed again and I feel super weird and sludgy.
Between art, work, therapy training and all of my relationships, this year has so far been super confronting.

I'm being shown the ways I still hold onto old sewn beliefs about being a good person and how this continues to play out in unhelpful ways in relating to people.
It's been jarring to see how much I can be oriented towards perceived threat. How much negativity bias I carry and how much of a feedback loop I create in the process despite feeling like a someone with a generally positive affect.

I'm sitting with shock and some new threads of compassion for myself after another intense training weekend. I'm realising how present and deep the pain of masking for years, throughout school, and trying to figure out how to be human like other people still is for me.
I'm seeing how unkind I can be to myself and how challenging it is to create new pathways here.

And through it all, I feel kinda warm and fuzzy about having some sense of trust in the process. The more years I live, the more chances I have to experience this sludge and the growing pains that come with it.

So another Divya is being born
I wonder who she'll be

Also in other news,
It seems I was being a bit dramatic in my previous post about abstraction and failed to recognise the impact being so busy with The Library Project would have on my drawing practice because I was back to drawing the same night that finished 😅

Sorry for causing alarm, I no longer identify as the person who wrote that post. Beautiful pictures are really cool and I remembered how much inspiration I draw from nature which is itself infinitely beautiful and terrifying, just like art we make. Also I believe in colour more than most things tbh.

Soo we definitely underestimated the effort required for this project let alone the whole ARI 😆
But as hard and tiring all of this is, I feel so deeply grateful to have found these humans ( @juno.felix @holly.lee.dickson_artist ) and to be experiencing the utter joy of banding together to build something so special for this community and for other artists.

Saturday was remarkable. To see more than 40 people turn up to our event to celebrate art and each other - in Penrith!! Where for a long time it's felt like there's isn't enough demand for arts and culture things, this is just so exciting!

Thank you to @eyeswideemmafied for photgraphing our short film journey and Dan @anti.bvz for being on filming and editing and @jamiejudesmithart for music!! And to all the Riff Rats out there!! 🐀 🐁 🐀 🐁

day spent at the gallery reminded me that I can make whatever I want.
This work was from earlier this year when that was somehow easier to do
Lately I've been weighed down by judgements around so called abstract art, my assumed judgements others might have and the ones i've internalised. It's a weird line. A weird reality for me having totally experienced the magic of abstraction and still living in this world where it's easier for people to relate to what they understand immediately. I don't think I've arrived at a place where I'm detached from a desire for people to ~appreciate~ (enjoy/connect with etc) my work. Do we ever?
Being reduced to just a pretty painting or something like that feels like something I'm in conflict with, running away from. It's also a weird thing to be experiencing my own transition into this space that has always been labelled pretentious and snobby from where I stood before

/// what does it mean for me to not like the term 'abstract art' ??????? Why is there this attachment to meaning instead of experience. Just like with music, sport etc etc
Someone recently said that sport is theatre and yes, yes it is.

Trying to put into words how incredible it feels to be increasingly surrounded by creative people who see the world in all the magical ways.
Like how being around my friend @ember.in.rain 's work reminded me how much I love photography and inspired me to look in that direction again.
And like how building an ARI from absolute scratch (shoutout to @riffraff_ari) with my friends @juno.felix and @holly.lee.dickson_artist is hands down one of the most rewarding things I've done and am doing, because every day I get with all of these people the more I learn about how whack the beliefs and systems around how work needs to look are, and how much power I have and how much better I feel in choosing to orient my life more towards friendship, community and love.
